SYNOPSIS
This piece was created as the back cover for the playbill of Becoming, a musical about growth, identity, and self-discovery. I was given full creative freedom for the design, so I chose to feature one of my favorite butterflies, which is the blue morpho. Its vibrant color and symbolic meaning of transformation made it a fitting choice for the show’s theme. I placed the butterfly gently atop a blooming rose to visually represent the idea of becoming who you’re meant to be. The composition is meant to evoke a sense of beauty, growth, and emotional evolution, complementing the tone of the musical.
PROCESS
I began by studying and practicing how to draw the blue morpho butterfly, paying close attention to the intricate patterns on its wings. I experimented with different angles and perspectives to better understand its structure and movement. After several sketches and observations, I felt confident enough to begin working on the final piece.
