SYNOPSIS
This digital art piece was created as a cover for the playbill of the musical Becoming, a story about college music students on a journey of self-discovery. The show explores themes of growth, identity, and transformation, often symbolized through butterfly imagery and the concept of finding light in the midst of struggle. To reflect these themes, I illustrated a colorful piano surrounded by butterflies in motion, with soft beams of light streaming through a nearby window. The composition is meant to evoke hope, creativity, and personal evolution, capturing the emotional heart of the musical through symbolic and vibrant visual elements.
PROCESS
First Sketches
The client initially requested a rainbow piano as the focal point, so I began by sketching several variations to explore different interpretations of that idea. After reviewing the options, the client preferred the larger design featuring rainbow-colored keys. They also mentioned that instead of using roses, they would prefer butterflies to better align with the theme of transformation and creativity. With this feedback in mind, I began working on the full version of the piece
